HOW TO COOK BACON IN THE MICROWAVE: 4 TIPS
While many bacon lovers claim cooking bacon in the microwave is heresy, sometimes it’s a fair choice. Sure, you may not get the full flavor of the bacon. But when you’re in a time crunch, or if you only want one or two strips (in a salad, for example) the microwave is always a good option.
But you still want to make the most of your bacon, so make sure you’re doing it right. Follow our 4 tips, and you’ll be in delicious shape.
USE PAPER TOWELS.Always place your bacon on a paper towel, then on a plate, making sure you cover the bacon in another towel. The towels will absorb the grease so your microwave doesn’t get messy. Plus, it makes for easy clean-up.
STACK LAYERS OF BACON.Many people think you can only cook as many strips of bacon that will fit on one paper towel/plate, but you can actually sandwich your bacon strips on top of each other with a paper towel in between each layer. Your initial cook time will be longer, but you will save time in the long run.
DON’T OVER-ESTIMATE YOUR COOK TIME.Different microwaves have different power levels. While a general approach is 1 minute of HIGH microwave time per bacon slice (maybe less for thinner cut and more for thick cut), it doesn’t hurt to check in on your bacon every minute or two just to see how it’s cooking. Resetting your microwave only takes a few seconds, and it’s worth it not to overcook your bacon!
COOL BACON ON A PLATE.Once you’re done with the microwave, immediately move the bacon over to a non-paper-toweled plate. If you leave it on the paper towel, the towel will likely stick to the bacon.
